You make Glasgow

Streets Alive with Glasgow Brilliance

February 2023

This project is the outcome of my group's three-day mini-charrette and competition, hosted by Landsec for students from MDes Interior Design to respond to and reimagine the "place purpose" opportunities across the Buchanan Galleries masterplan through short film and moving image. The outcome was a unique evening event of projected display (delivered by Scotland-based Double Take Projections) onto the facade of Buchanan Galleries car park.

Our initial goal is to showcase Glasgow’s identity in a playful way. So what is Glasgow for us?

Glasgow is a colorful city; posters on the streets, craft shops at Southside, music venues, walks in the Park no matter if it rains, bold squirrels get in your way. Glasgow is humorous, playful and fun in an unexpected way. Glasgow streets are turned to a vibrant pattern full of color and joy capturing all the contradictions of everyday life. Our visitor is hopefully coming from the future. The red squirrel is ready to inhabit Glasgow again. He is ready to become part of Glasgow life again, go to events, admire and engage in art and hopefully fall in love on the streets alive with Glasgow brilliance. We also chose the squirrel as our visitor so we could have the opportunity to see Glasgow with a new perspective. It allowed us to speculate on smaller details and imaging things from a non-human scale, having the squirrel narrate the story for us, for you, for him.
